QUOTH THE RAVEN
It's just been officially announced so...DC SPECIAL: RAVEN #1 (of 5) On Sale: March 5, 2008
This was written by me, with pencils by Damion Scott and inks by Robert Campanella. The official DC release says: From Marv Wolfman, co-creator of Raven, and maverick penciller Damion Scott (BATGIRL) comes a 5-issue miniseries delving into Raven's past and giving her a new life — but first she must survive the horrors of high school! Can the Titan's empath endure the wave of teen angst at school, especially after someone begins killing students? Emotions are driven sky high thanks to the reappearance of the Psycho Pirate's Medusa mask, and there's no way anyone can contain it once it has fallen into the wrong hands. Titans fans new and old dare not miss this one!
Let me add that Damion's pencils are magnificent and I am extremely pleased with the script. Some of you who might think I'd write the old Raven as we did her in Titans may be disappointed but if you give this new and younger version a chance, I think you'll like it as much as I did. Anyway, I'll tell you more about it as the publishing date nears.

I have to admit: the cover is not my cup of tea at all, so I'm hoping the insides will be, er, rather different. With the 'newer and younger' thing, I must also admit some trepidation. There's been some concern out here in fanland that she's slowly turning into her toon counterpart and losing some of what makes her unique in the process.
That said, I'm very much looking forward to this one. I'm curious about what you're going to do with the Medusa Mask and what you're going to dredge up from her past. I'm also quite happy to see the neglected Johns subplot of her going to school finally being dealt with.
Is it March yet?
I am so looking forward to this series! I think the cover looks fab. I have to admit that it was the cartoon series that first introducd the Teen Titans to me. Then I started to back read through the comics.
True, not all comic fans liked it when Geoff Johns made some adaptations which are related to the "new" animation Raven.
Marv Wolfman on this: "The cartoon show played her as more goth and sarcastic and her voice made her irresistible. Truth to tell, I loved her cartoon presentation and added just a bit of that to this new interpretation while keeping her rooted to what I did, as well as what Geoff Johns later did with her." http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/printthis.cgi?id=12615
And I agree on this. The old Raven was more kind and a pacifist. But I believe the new Raven is a better representation for well behaved half-demons.
Dear Marv Wolfman,
Thanks for being so open in your latest vision of Raven. A sign of the times maybe, but characters "from whom good is forged from darkness" drama are intriguingly popular.
I digress. I'm looking forward very much to what may be the first comic series I've purchased.
I was also looking to share a few, very impressive artistic pieces I think you'd enjoy. They're not mine, but you should see them.

Thanks Marv; it's seldom we get to thank the authors of the stories we grow up with; What are comics but contemporary myths and fables?
